Anthony George Sinclair was born on December 14, 1942. He was the first child of a family of three boys and two girls.
After Attending Potternewton Infants and Junior schools he went to Chapeltown Secondary Modern School. He left there with no qualifications and went to work as a commis waiter at the Queens Hotel in Leeds. It was the first of a long series of jobs. Until he was 18, he worked as a warehouseman at several firms and then spent 2 years as a bus conductor.
He signed on in the army but stayed only 10 weeks before he bought himself out for £ 25. After working as a warehouseman, he joined the Leeds Corporation Parks Department where for 6 years he was a gardener. It was during this period that Sinclair decided to better himself and after passing six GCEs, he was about to start a teacher training course at Bradford.
